This is a fast recipe for when you want to bake something savory but you don’t want to spend hours in the kitchen.
Here are the ingredients + steps:
Ingredients:
500g of honey garlic sausage (casing removed)
416g of warm milk
32g of granulated sugar
8g of active dry yeast
117g of cold unsalted butter (melted)
1 large egg (at room temperature)
760g of all purpose flour
3 pinches of salt
184g of shredded mozzarella
Baking steps:
Add the sausage to a nonstick pan and cook on medium heat until cooked/brown while making sure to break down the sausage into smaller pieces.
Add the sausage to a plate lined with white paper towel so that it can absorb the oil released from the sausage.
In a large bowl, add the milk, sugar and yeast. Whisk well and cover for 5 minutes.
Add the melted butter & large egg and whisk until combined.
Progressively add the flour and mix with a spatula until you add all of the flour.
Add the dough to a baking board and knead into a ball. Cover the dough for 35 minutes to let it rise.
Assembly steps:
Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Preheat the oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a bowl, mix the sausage and the cheese.
On a baking board, roll the dough into a rectangle shape.
Add the sausage and cheese mix all over the dough.
Roll the dough into a log and cut into 6 pieces or more depending on how small or big you want them to be. You can use a knife or dental floss.
Bake until a toothpick comes out clean. It took me 34 minutes.
Let the buns cool down for 5-10 minutes before enjoying.
Notes:
This recipe is enough for 5-6 people.
Some parts of the baked rolls may or will have tearing on the sides because we are not proofing the dough for a long time (this is a fast recipe). Rest assured that the rolls will turn out fluffy and delicious.
They taste best on the same day but you can keep them in the fridge for 2 days but keep in mind that they will become dry. You can reheat them in the oven.
